Jaspal Minhas is Managing Director of Electrical Design And Mfg Co Limited.

The company was established in 1964 by Mr R J Venn & Mrs B Vennina small workshop in Whetstone Village, Leicestershire. Jaspal Singh Minhas joined the company in 1972 as an apprentice and then progressed to a supervisor, then on to works manager, director and then finally took over the Business in October 2002.

Electrical Design And Mfg Co Limited (EDM) are in the Quality end of the market manufacturing Electrical Control Panels mainly for : Steel Industries, Airports, Offshore,Nuclear Power Stations, Heating And Ventilation As Well As Material Handling And Packaging Industries.

The company employs about 20 people and have now moved to new modern premises in Oadby.

Prior to being elected Vice President – Governance, Sindy has been a committed board member of LABA for over six years, including a time as Company Secretary. Sindy is also a director of a financial services company called The FinanceLab Ltd.

The FinanceLab was established in 2002. It is a family owned firm that provides fee based comprehensive financial planning using cash-flow forecasting. The Company prides itself on creating a financial plan with the client, using one of the most sophisticated financial planning packages available. The process helps the client answer the question regarding - ‘Will I have enough...for School fees?... for University fees?... for a Holiday home?....for Retirement?’.

Vice President Political Liaison and President of LABA’s Women’s Network

Rani joined LABA as Board Director in 2010 and was appointed Chair of LABA Women’s Network. As Vice-President for Political Affairs for LABA, Rani is to take a lead on developing a close and meaningful relationship with the three main political parties at the local, city, county, regional, national and European level. The role includes close links with the Elected Mayor for Leicester and the proposed Elected Police Commissioner.

Rani Mahal is a Director of Midland Corsetry, a Clothing manufacturing company supplying lingerie garments to most UK high street retailers.

The Company was established in 1979 in Leicester with all manufacturing carried out locally until manufacturing was re-located to the Far East approximately 15 years. The Design and Sales teams are retained in the UK.


Robert Watson

As the Director of LABA Robert is responsible for the day to day running of the organisation and for leading its development and growth. To do this he is able to draw on his experience as a Lt/Col in the Army and as a senior manager in the telecommunications industry and more recently, as a consultant working with SMEs to set strategy, overcome friction and grow business.

The Army provided an excellent grounding in planning, administration and strategic thinking, whilst a sales and marketing role in GPT and BT provided experience of a range of industries including travel and transport, pharmaceuticals and food and drink, as well as the public and voluntary sectors. As Regional Manager for BT in the East Midlands, he acquired a detailed understanding of the local business and community landscape and established a wide network of contacts that are of benefit to LABA.

Priyesh is the Sales and Marketing Director at Cofresh Snack Foods Ltd, a second generation family run business, with over 35 years of experience manufacturing snack foods in the UK.

The company now has over one million consumers enjoying Cofresh branded products every week in the UK alone! The tradition of manufacturing quality, innovative and customer focused products from its’ purpose built factories and warehouses in the UK and abroad, has allowed the company to become a trusted supplier to all the UK’s Major Supermarket Chains, and most Discounters, Cash & Carrys’ and Independent Retailers.

A company established in 1990 and generally involved in industrial office and retail property investments and development UK wide.

Raja Mahal has been appointed as lead on Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LEP) for LABA.

Bob arrived in the UK 1990 as an international professional hockey player. He started a clothes distribution business in 1994. After marrying he diversified into properties, with a portfolio of residential, commercial and development properties.

At the head and founder of the Kullar Group of companies his current interest include a hydro power generation and Solar Power in India, and also several joint ventures in Poland ranging from infrastructure development to properties, organic agriculture and electronics.

Board Member & Professor of Logistics & Supply Chain Management

Samir Dani is Professor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management in the Business School at the University of Huddersfield. Prior to joining academia, Samir’s mechanical engineering background led him to work in the Indian automotive industry for five years. He completed his PhD at the Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing, Loughborough University, exploring buyer-supplier relationships within a psychological perspective. Samir’s research interests include supply chain and logistics management (risk, resilience and sustainability), operations management, systems engineering, human behaviour, and new business models. He has a special interest in researching Food supply chains and risks within these chains. Samir has experience of leading and working on various EPSRC projects in a diverse range of supply chain and operations management areas. He has received nearly £600k in research funding from EPSRC (First Grant, INTERACT call 5), IMCRC, KTP, and for funding EngDoc and PhD students. Samir has been involved with the India-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) group in the field of logistics and supply chains and has links with the UKTI and the Confederation of Indian Industry. Samir is a member of EPSRC’s Peer Review College and reviews funding proposals in the area of supply chain and operations management. Samir has published over 55 articles (journals and conference contributions), book chapters and reports and he has presented widely to both academic and practitioner audiences. Samir is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

As Chairman, Uday’s role is to ensure that the board is effective in its tasks of setting and implementing LABA’s direction and strategy. Uday further supports the President and the board.

Uday chairs LABA’s Indo-British Trade Council and his business interests include senior partner with Global Consulting UK. Uday is an independent member of Leics. and Rutland Police Authority, a Non Exec. Director of Local Better Regulation Office, Member of Civil Aviation Authority’s Insolvency Committee and representative of the Maritza Region of Bulgaria in the UK.
